Early Education & Academic Contribution

Mr. Khan pursued his higher Islamic education at the renowned Islamic University of Jamia Madania, Sylhet, Bangladesh, where he successfully graduated in Islamic Studies. His passion for teaching and sharing knowledge led him to serve as a lecturer at Jamia Madania from 1988 to 1991, inspiring students with his wisdom and dedication.

Service as a Muslim Chaplain

In 2003, Farid Ahmed Khan was appointed as the first Muslim chaplain in Wales under the Aneurin Bevan Health Board, serving at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, South Wales. This historic appointment reflected his leadership in the Muslim community and his ability to build bridges between faith, healthcare, and wider society.

His role as chaplain included:

• Providing spiritual guidance and pastoral care to patients and their families.
• Supporting hospital professionals in ensuring Islamic rulings, principles, and ethics were respected.
• Leading Friday sermons, congregational prayers, and educational sessions for staff, patients, and visitors.

Later, in July 2018, Mr. Khan was further appointed as a Chaplain at University Health Board Wales (UHW), where he continues his noble mission of serving Muslim patients with compassion and ensuring that faith-based needs are respected within the healthcare system.

Leadership as Imam & Community Servant

Beyond hospital chaplaincy, Farid Ahmed Khan has a long-standing history of serving as an Imam in several mosques across South Wales, including Newport, Neath, and Bridgend. His responsibilities extend to:

• Delivering Friday Khutbahs (sermons) and leading daily prayers.
• Teaching Islamic literature to children, youth, and adults.
• Offering guidance on religious, ethical, and social matters to the wider community.

Currently, he serves as the Chairman of Al-Falah Centre (Cardiff) and is actively engaged in spiritual duties at Iqra Community Centre (Newport), Neath Masjid (West Glamorgan), and Bilal Masjid (Bridgend).

Mr. Khan’s ability to connect with people across cultures is enhanced by his multilingual skills. He is fluent in English, Bengali, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, and the Sylheti dialect, enabling him to serve and inspire diverse communities effectively.
